What began as an old hunting camp has been transformed into the only privately owned boutique lodge within the 30,000-hectare Munyawana Big 5 Conservancy. Built by local artisans, guided by local knowledge and inspired by a deep respect for this extraordinary place.
Keenan and Sam bring a wealth of bush knowledge, creativity and passion to Sungulwane. A trained chef turned guide, Keenan blends his love for food with an encyclopaedic understanding of the African bush. Sam, originally an architect from the UK, fell deeply in love with Africa and forged a career in guiding and lodge management. Together, they have managed lodges across Mozambique, Botswana and other parts of South Africa before calling Sungulwane home.
The Sungulwane team is made up of dedicated people from surrounding Zululand communities, including tracker-guides, chefs, hosts and housekeeping staff who bring their own stories, skills and spirit to the lodge. Their pride, hospitality and genuine connection to the land elevate every guest experience.
Set within the 30,000-hectare Munyawana Big 5 Conservancy, Zuka Private Game Reserve is a mosaic of grassveld, woodland, thicket and savanna. A thriving Big 5 landscape known for exceptional cheetah sightings, flourishing rhino populations and rich biodiversity.
